Why you'd want to live in East Riverside
Just South of the river and long the destination for students and working folks looking for an affordable place to live not too far from downtown, East Riverside is still densely residential and somewhat unrefined. That’s not to say it’s without culture; in addition to the strong Mexican influence in the area resulting in an abundance of bodegas, taquerias, and panaderias, there have always been cheap eats and quirky shops along the major drives, and recently the area has been getting more attention, as developers build reasonably-priced condos near the waterfront and famous concert and event venue Emo’s relocates to Riverside Drive. The area has a constantly replenishing population of college students, which has resulted in a strong Longhorns culture and a plentiful supply of modestly priced apartments. Look for East Riverside to transform in coming years. As Austin continues to grow, it’s the next logical step for expansion of culture and nightlife, and the change has already begun!
