While Old West Austin denotes a specific neighborhood immediately west of Downtown, it is also used to refer to a collection of small neighborhoods bordered loosely by Guadalupe Street on the east and Mopac Expressway (Loop 1) on the west. Lying near the Capitol Grounds and filled with stately historic homes, spreading, shady lawns, and some of Austin’s most prominent citizens, the neighborhoods of Old West Austin are among the city’s most prestigious residential areas.
