Sara has been an Austin resident since 1978 with a Houston, Texas upbringing. Educated at Bellaire High School, she has an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree from the University of Houston. Her previous work includes experience as a School Psychologist, development of a day camp for Head Start, adult education in mental health, Director of an Early Childhood Program and President of the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children. Traveling, gardening, weaving and book clubs are other interests she enjoys.
In the past, Sara collaborated with her husband, Mark Madera, Architect & Builder, in creative additions to and renovations of older homes and the construction of new homes in older neighborhoods with the “Not so Big House” aesthetic. She is the mother of Daniel Madera since 1985, previously a two-time winner of outstanding linebacker and team captain at Austin High School, graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, a commercial construction superintendent for large multifamily projects at The Domain and superintendent of construction for luxury custom homes as well as special events creator and producer as a founding member of Six Cactus.
